How does the old system come out?
Removal starts with refrigerant recovery: the charge in your old system is pumped into a sealed cylinder by an EPA-certified technician, which federal law requires. Then the outdoor condenser is disconnected and hauled off for recycling and the old evaporator coil comes out of the plenum. What fills the middle of the day?
- Setting the condenser: the new outdoor unit goes on a level pad with airflow clearance; on exposed Tri-Lakes lots the crew also considers snow drift and roof shed lines when placing it.
- Installing the coil: the new evaporator coil is sealed into the plenum so no air slips past it.
- Line set, electrical, drain: refrigerant lines are brazed and insulated, the disconnect and wiring are brought to code, and the condensate drain is sloped away from the foundation.
Which end-of-day steps should you never see skipped?
Three, in order. First, a nitrogen pressure test proves the line set holds. Second, a vacuum pump evacuates air and moisture from the lines — rushing this step is a classic cause of early compressor failure. Third, the system is charged to the manufacturer's specification and commissioned with real measurements: temperature split across the coil, amp draws, and airflow. The day should end with a thermostat walkthrough and warranty registration, not just a wave from the driveway.
How can you prepare your home?
- Clear a path to the furnace or air handler and move stored items aside.

- Keep pets secured — doors will be open all day.
- Plan around intermittent power shutoffs.
