The three rebate streams

Three programs. One stack.

The biggest savings come from stacking — not picking. Here's what each one does.

Xcel Energy

Utility rebate (POS)

Xcel publishes per-equipment tiers — cold-climate heat pumps earn the largest amount. We file the paperwork at install.

Colorado SB23-016

$1,000 state credit

Point-of-sale heat-pump credit, applied at install when your installer is CEO-registered. Stacks with Xcel + federal.

Federal 25C

30% tax credit

IRA Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit. 30% of cost, up to $2,000/yr on heat pumps. Filed on your tax return.

Rebate questions

Rebates, answered.

Which HVAC rebates can I stack in Colorado in 2026?

Three programs stack on a qualifying heat-pump install: the Xcel Energy heat-pump rebate (sized by efficiency tier — cold-climate models earn the largest amount), the Colorado SB23-016 $1,000 point-of-sale heat-pump tax credit, and the federal 25C tax credit (30% of installed cost up to $2,000/yr on heat pumps). Standard ACs and high-efficiency gas furnaces qualify for smaller Xcel + federal amounts but not the Colorado heat-pump credit.

Do I have to file the rebate paperwork myself?

Colorado Bear files the Xcel Energy rebate at install — the credit shows up on your invoice and is deducted before you pay. The Colorado SB23-016 point-of-sale credit is also applied at install when your installer is CEO-registered. The federal 25C credit is claimed on your tax return (IRS Form 5695); we give you the AHRI certificate and the equipment-spec sheet you need to file.

What if my ZIP isn't in Xcel territory?

The Colorado state heat-pump credit and the federal 25C credit aren't tied to your utility — those stack everywhere in the state. If you're inside Colorado Springs Utilities or Mountain View Electric territory, you lose the Xcel piece but keep the state + federal stack. The Rebate Concierge above auto-detects your utility from your ZIP.

Is the calculator a guaranteed rebate amount?

No — it's an estimate based on the current published program tiers. Final rebate amounts depend on equipment specifications (SEER2 / HSPF2 ratings), program availability at time of install, and program-year changes. Always verify current Xcel and Colorado Energy Office program rules before purchase — we'll do that with you at the in-home estimate.

Will Colorado Bear help me pick the right system to maximize rebates?

Yes — that's the whole point. We size equipment with a Manual-J load calculation (not just sqft), confirm SEER2 / HSPF2 ratings against current program tiers, and write up the quote with the rebate stack already deducted. As a factory-authorized Daikin dealer, we install equipment that qualifies for the top efficiency tier on every program.
